Colectivo Agroecológico de Vilcabamba
We are a nonprofit organization committed to keeping transgenic seeds out of Ecuador by educating the public with the truth about GMOs. We know that GM seeds and crops will be harmful for the agrobiodiversity of Ecuador. In a country as biologically diverse as ours, it is very risky to bring seeds that are proven dangerous to the survival of our native seeds, crops and traditions- we know this according to experiences already lived for the past 20 years in countries like U.S.A, Mexico, Canada, India, etc.
To this end we have developed several strategies in which you can participate according to your interest and capabilities:

Why NO: GMO?
Because we love the seeds and we want their fertility intact!
We love the Earth.
We care about life.
We love the biodiversity.
We love healthy food.
STRATEGY
#1: Read the literature, watch the slide show (modified from http://www.responsibletechnology.org/resources/powerpoint-presentation-on-gmos) and video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4Ezt4NH8aU. Catch up with the latest INFO and it will CHARGE YOU UP! To join up with this strategy.
Write and call the Ecuadorean legislators and urge him/her to strengthen the protections against GMOs in Ecuador--NOT dismantle them.
#2: Share the information with friends and family. Duplicate and pass on quickly. Watch the video and slide show with them. Share with at least 5 people in your neighborhood. Ask them to share with 5 more people and contact their legislator (assambleista)--within 2 days.
#3: Help organize a presentation of the information in your barrio. Find the people in your barrio that are working on this, and support them. Get your friends that are in your barrio to attend the presentation. See if you can help with the technical aspects.
#4: National Outreach: With your family/friends, brainstorm a list of everyone you can think of that you know would like to be informed about this issue.
Get out a map of Ecuador, and think of everyone you know that you can contact in other provinces. Duplicate the literature and discs, and pass it to them. If you don’t know people in other provinces, contact organizations that might be interested. If you don’t speak Spanish, contact English speaking organizations, using resources such as the Gringo Tree in Cuenca. Ask them to do the same. Always include the request to urge the legislators to take a stand to protect Ecuador from GMOs.
#5: Support the Comisión Agroecológica, Vilcabamba, to make the local and national campaigns successful.
#6: Work on this issue via Internet. For eg. circulate the Avaaz petition internationally. http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/GMOfree_Ecuador/?fRclPab
